Friday's Fancies #71: Travel Chic

Travel-wear.
This is something I have nailed, for sure. Ask Michael- I'm kind of obsessive when it comes to being organized for travel, especially plane travel. I have what to wear and what not to wear down like a champ!
Here's what I make sure I wear/carry:

 1. Comfy. Flowy. Tops. Only. Sitting for hours in a car or plane in a tight fitting top? No thanks. This loose, comfy top is perfect for travel.
2. Same thing goes with your pants. Broken in, trusty jeans that are easy to wear but not ratty are the way to go. These boyfriend jeans fit the bill!
3. I know it's a random thing to over-think, but I always either pack or wear a few extra hair ties. When you're running through and airport for a late flight, you're gonna want to throw your hair up stat!
4. No matter what, when you fly, for the love of god use a bag with a zip top. Coming from someone who often spills her purse: get a zip top bag.
5.  Acrylic monograms are the new bag tags. Amiright?
6. Flats. Always. Having to take your shoes off in the airport is embarrassing enough- and having to untie and tie laces is just a waste of time!

Please note the lack of jewelry.
Unless you're looking for a big old awkward feel from a TSA agent, just avoid the jewelry. I learned that rule the hard way!!

What's your  travel tip?
Share away, friends!

Friday's Fancies #51: Outfit Crush

TGIF.
No, but really.
How is it that this week felt like two? Beyond ready for the weekend, folks.

---

This week for #FF {av} pulled out the classic outfit crush card, and it was not hard at all to pick a look I'm loving!
LC can layer like the best of them, and I'm loving the simple stripes layered with a little denim and a chunky scarf:

I'm not the biggest jean jacket wearer, so I went with this crazy affordable and awesome denim button up from Target. Matched with the softest black skinnies and a chunky heathered scarf, I think this could be my winter uniform.
Clearly I had to incorporate stripes in there somewhere, and this Kate Spade bag is completely the perfect way to do so. Rather than copy LC's dark nails, I thought this shade of NARS lipstick would be a good alternative! For the finishing touch, these sweet little studs add just a little bit of sparkle!

So there you have it, outfit recreation at its finest!

What are your plans for the weekend, friends?
I'll be bundling up for the 4 degree weather we're expecting next week. Gah.

Summer so far.

So...summer has hit Richmond.
It's hot (shocking, I know).

We're finally getting accustomed to summers in the South:

1. Michael and I had our first apartment cockroach run-in. I freaked. Michael crushed the hell out of it. #win.

2. We went to Comfort Saturday night in honor of my college friend Teresa being in town and only ordered sides. I'm not kidding. We felt so Southern. Fried green tomatoes, cheddar grits, okra, beans, snap peas, mac & cheese: it was your every day carbo load heaven.

3. It's freaking hot here, and rather than hide from the sun yesterday we got out and enjoyed every sweaty sunbeating minute of Richmond. The crazy thing was people were doing a TRIATHALON in the heat down by the canal walk. I got heat stroke just watching them.
------------

I haven't done an Instagram round up in a while, so here are a few summer shots of late...

Work Holiday Party

Before I get into today's post- I've got to reiterate how easy and delicious the homemade caramels were from yesterday's post- if you haven't gone out to get the 5 ingredients it takes to make it-
GO! RUN! Do it now! Or at least after checking out today's post...

We had our holiday party for work the other night at my house- and I wish I could say I wore something this lovely. What I actually wore? Skinny jeans and a flannel shirt. Yep. You can take the girl out of Minnesota, but you can't take the Minnesota out of the girl. In my defense- the party was just a low-key shindig at my house- not a glamorous night at a fancy restaurant!

If you happen to be having a holiday party that's a fancy affair- try this outfit!

NYE Already?!

I work retail, which means from November 1st-December 25th all I hear is Christmas music. I actually don't mind the classic Christmas songs- but when you hear all the terrible remade versions of them for almost 2 months straight- it makes you go a little bonkers.

There's a particularly upsetting version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" that's a mix between a song from Mariah Carey's "Butterfly" and nails on a chalkboard. It's painful. During the "he's gonna find out who's naughty or nice" portion it's more like "heeeeeeeeeeeee's gonnafindout whoooooooooo's naughtayyyy or niiiiiiiice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Yes. That many exclamation marks. GAH.

For the life of me I can't get that line out of my head- and to calm down the screeching I decided to make the best out of it and run with the "naughty or nice" theme- but for New Year's Eve! Michael and I haven't decided whether we'll be in Richmond or DC for our first East Coast NYE- but either way I intend to:
1. Dress up
2. Drink Champagne
3. Be around confetti

Real original, right? Either way- it all led to this premature NYE Polyvore collection:

Naught or Nice NYE

My favorite piece by far is the Champagne Skirt for $59.... aaaand the Neon Yellow Slap Dash Collar for ....gasp...$1,750. Guess that won't be making it's NYE appearance with me this year!
