GIDDYUP UNCLE MICHAEL!

This last week was a super busy one. Not having Monday to do work just made everything that much more crazy, didn't it?
The weather has been GORGEOUS in Madison, and Saturday was the first day that had that little twinge of fall in it. In case you haven't gathered by all my babbling, I need some fall weather in my life. Now.
Here's what's up lately:

I don't know if it's the heat or what, but my usual gigantic necklaces have been replaced with simple ones like this gold locket from HibiscusDays

This recipe will be featured on the blog tomorrow, get ready:

I'm kind of sure that Claire Vivier makes some of the most gorgeous clutches. Like this gold one:

(photo via shopbop)*

I got to see my lovely friend Brianna this weekend, and after beer and conversation we got to see a pretty rainstorm over the capitol:
Saturday morning was spent with one of my sisters and my niece Lydia. She's completely in love with Michael, especially when he let's her ride up on his shoulders. She kept yelling "Giddyup Unca Michael!", and giggling like crazy. Pure joy:
This week at work favorites? Colorblocking and polka dots:

What did your weekend look like?
If it included that clutch, you are one lucky person. Le sigh.

THE MOST GIGANTIC ZUCCHINI!

This weekend by so fast I'm a little upset about it. We did a million things and had a wonderful time...and yet it just wasn't enough. Is it Labor Day weekend yet? Please?
Besides eating a great dinner and having an exorbitant about of wine while playing Scrabble and Apples to Apples with Lauren and our boys, we managed to finally get a dining room table in our apartment like real adults (Thanks S+L)!
Here's my weekend brain dump:
-------
We went to the Farmer's Market this weekend and along with our usual giant bag of kettlecorn we got this HUGE zucchini for $1. Yeah. Wait. Scratch that. Hell yeah. There is so much zucchini bread making in my future. Get ready for about 3490234 recipes including zucchini, my friends.

I never used to like rings much, and then out of nowhere I'm a big fan.I know, this is probably wildly exciting to you, right? Well I said it was a brain dump!  My Spade Ring came last week and it's tiny and pretty and needs a few friends... and I think These Jules Smith Edie Thin Stacking Rings are kind of perfect.

I have been cooking/baking up a storm lately. More than usual. I have a ridiculous amount of recipes I'm going to be sharing on the blog coming up, so be ready. Tomorrow's recipe led to this:
The weather in Wisconsin cannot make up it's mind. One day the air has the chill of fall, one day it's 93 and sunny. Dresses one day, pants the next. GO AWAY SUMMER. GIVE ME FALL!
via Instagram
Overall I haven't been the biggest fan of the scallop trend (so sue me) but somehow I think this miiiiight just change my mind. Fall bag, anyone

How was your weekend?
Buy any oversized zucchinis?

5 THINGS LATELY.

Oh hey. If you're looking for a cohesive post, this one may not be for you (don't hate me Christin)!
Here's what's up with me lately. Prepare to be riveted.
-------------------

Thing 1: This baby went on sale, and it's mine. All. Mine. Or...well...it will be once it arrives in the mail (with free shipping, mind you).  Is it not the perfect little tiny spade ring?
Get it here! (photo via ASOS)
Thing 2: The weather in the Midwest has been insanely perfect. Almost too perfect. I snapped this on the ride back to WI this weekend:
(Find me on Instagram HERE!)
Thing 3: I made salsa yesterday and it freaking rocks. Yeah. Horn tooted. Recipe tomorrow.
nom.
Thing 4: Each time Michael and I get up early to get the apartment put together, the below is what ends up happening. Yes, I wear penguin pajamas. 24 going on 4. Deal with it.
Thing 5: I bought this sweater yesterday. I just thought I'd let you all know I intend to style it with a skirt that is longer than an inch from my lady parts, unlike the model.

Friday's Fancies #33: Wear the Sunset

This week's FF is all about Wearing the Sunset.
While I normally would do a full outfit inspired by the theme, this week I decided some accessories would be fun! Rather than wearing clothing items in these colors, I'd much rather use them in small doses in the form of accessories:

red:  bracelet  //    clutch   //    flats
orange:  bracelet  //  clutch   //  necklace
yellow: bracelet   //   earrings    // loafers

Which sunset item is your favorite?
All I have to say is, gimme those loafers, Gap!

Orchid Perfect Gingham: J.Crew

Aqua Belt (under $10): ASOS
Tortoise sunglasses (under $15): ASOS
Circle Earrings: Marc by Marc Jacobs

How do you wear your gingham?

brain dump

Welcome to my brain dump friends.

1.  Huge thank you to Lauren, Sheri Ann, Angela, Meaghan, & Shanna for taking over the blog last week while I was camping & visiting home for the first time in 11 months. I owe each of you a biiiiig hug. If you all didn't check out their blogs, make sure you do!

2. "Camping" with Michael's whole family was great. It was a hot one, but that just meant we spent pretty much the whole weekend cooling off in the water. Rough life, I tell ya.
perfect wisconsin sunset // swimsuit print mixing (aka not owning any matching suits)  //  mah man and his new haircut

3. Being back home in MN with the family was magical. I hugged my sister more than was probably necessary. Sorry, Lou. On top of that I got to see some of my favorite friends. Aren't friends from back home the best?
iconinc MN //  mom & michael on our dock  //  sister time in MPLS
best soft serve since 1973  //  love me some nordeast  //   yes, michael fished. per usual

4. These things have been making me happy lately:
washi tape from target  //   neon shorts & stripes  // license plate wall in our garage dad is working on. epic.
garage sale finds mean new art for our new place  //   best summer treat  //  after a month's wait, BB/ RPM earrings!

5. To everyone posting new pictures from the Fall J.Crew collection: you're killing me. Since we moved I haven't been getting their catalogs, which means a lot less unnecessary drooling and sighing...but seeing all these pictures has forced me to peruse the website. All the cashmere kills me. And in rainbow order, J.Crew? STOP. (p.s. I'll take this. Please.)

Oh, How Pinteresting #19

Holy crap people, it's July 10th.

For those following along, we are back in the Midwest! WOOHOO! We'll be spending the next few weeks seeing apartments, camping, and jumping back and forth between MN and WI. I would love to use a heck of a lot more exclamation marks right now, but I'm working on calming my inner 12 year old, and using them sparingly.
Okay, OHP time...

on being selfish...and thank you

*disclaimer- i realize this is a lot of talking for a monday post. bear with me people.
** double disclaimer- if you're new around here see more of what i'm talking about here
-----------------------------
So as you all know, Michael and I are moving back to the Midwest.
We've been travelling for the past 8 days, hitting every single New England state on our way. Up until yesterday, it just felt like a vacation. We've been seeing so many new places and enjoying so much time with friends we hadn't really slowed down to realize we were getting closer and closer to home. While driving through Ohio and Indiana it suddenly hit me that this wasn't vacation, this was reality.

The selfishness sunk in then. Not all of me was ready to be back.

You know that feeling when you leave your phone/computer/etc at home? The totally unplugged feeling? At first it's unnerving because you're so used to having contact with everyone at your fingertips, right? Well I don't know about you, but after a bit it's so freeing. You don't feel like you need to respond to every text, tweet or email immediately, and it's thoroughly enjoyable.

That's how it felt in Virginia. It was just Michael and me, on our own, enjoying time together uninterrupted. It sounds selfish, because it is. I have to say that every moment down there was like relishing the feeling of being totally unplugged. We didn't have any commitments/events to attend, and we didn't feel bad if we just spent the night in instead of seeing anyone. While I am beyond thrilled to be back to seeing our families and friends, I'll miss living in our little bubble. Although Virginia wasn't the right place for us for keeps, it was the right place for us at the time, I know that now.
via
All of this being said, I will be [figuratively] holding my breath until we arrive back tonight. There are so many people I cannot wait to hug.

Thanks for putting up with the onslaught of Instagram pictures. I know, I got a little bit obsessed with the pictures of toll tickets (and that wasn't even all of them!). This blog will clearly go on, in fact tomorrow I'll have a recipe post I totally forgot to get up before we left! The next few weeks will be a whirlwind of camping, moving, and figuring out what the heck we're going to do with ourselves...and I absolutely cannot wait.

Have you ever felt that need to be unplugged?
I highly recommend it, it feels great...just don't be surprised if it's hard to go back!
